Phil Grondin, president of the Sturdivant Island Tuna Tournament (SITT), made donations to three of Maine's Community Colleges at a ceremony on November 30 at Southern Maine Community College's McKernan Center. SMCC received $10,000; Northern Maine Community College received $7,500 and Washington County Community College received $7,500. The University of New England also received $7,500 and the Byron R. Gouzie Foundation was presented with a $5,000 gift. The Sturdivant Island Tuna Tournament, based out of Spring Point Marina in South Portland, is Maine and New England's premier Cash Prize big-game fishing event. With the help of tournament participants and generous sponsors, the tournament has made charitable contributions nearing $340,000 since it started in 1998.
